ABOUT KAUAI KIMONOS

Who are you guys and are you actually located in Hawaii?
We're two friends who train Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and are on a mission to create remarkable BJJ products. Dustin was born and raised on Kauai, and Jonathan is from California, traveling to Kauai for vacation since the 90's. We've been friends for years and have traveled the world together. Now we live on different islands: Dustin in Melbourne, Australia and Jonathan in Bali, Indonesia. But we still try to make regular trips back to Hawaii to see our friends and family. Kauai Kimonos is our way of spreading the Aloha spirit to the world through BJJ!

What gave you the idea to start making BJJ Gi's?
We started training BJJ and wanted to have our own Gi to represent Hawaii. Jonathan had been living in Bali for 5 years gaining experience in manufacturing and import/export business. Dustin had the initial idea and we started to work together toward a common goal of creating a small business tied to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Where do you produce the Gi's?
We have put together own manufacturing workshop in Bali, Indonesia that specializes in BJJ Gi design. We are the original, and only high quality BJJ Kimonos out of Indonesia. Check out our factory tour to see what its all about!

When did you get the idea to make Ripstop Gi's?
The idea for the ripstop tops came from Jonathan via his teacher in Bali, Niko Han. We originally tried to import Gold Weave fabric from Pakistan to Indonesia to use for the production but were unable to due to various laws in Indonesia designed to protect the local textile industry. When faced with this roadblock, we used ripstop fabric to make the jackets since we were already using it for pants. After tons of development and testing, we finally were able to create something awesome.

Why is Kauai Kimonos different than other Gi companies?
We have put together own manufacturing workshop in Bali that specializes in BJJ Gi design. Each and every GI is hand inspected by Jonathan. We train everyday, in our Kimonos, and are always listening to friends and teachers and have, and are continuing to adjust, to provide the best possible products.

Is there a waiting list to get a Kauai Kimono?
Yes at this time there is, shoot us an email off the contact form and and we will get things rolling for you.

Do I have to put any money down to preorder my Gi?
Not at this time.

How do I send payment when my Gi is ready to ship?
We will send you an invoice that you can securely pay online with a credit card, paypal or other payment method.

How long does shipping usually take?
We ship as soon as we receive your payment, orders are usually received in 1-3 working days.

What about international orders?
We're working to serve everyone. However there are waiting lists for some countries based on availability. Send us an email and let us know where you are. The shipping costs might be higher depending on where the gi is coming from and going to but we are trying our best.

Can I return the gi if there's a problem with it?
Depends on what the problem is. If you washed it with bleach and ruined the embroidery, or threw it in a nuclear hot dryer and melted the lapel, then probably no!

What is Ripstop, and is it strong enough for a BJJ Gi?
Rip-stop made from wizard sleeve, like magic cape, make you like super hero.

How is the 100% Ripstop Kauai Kimono different than my traditional BJJ Gi?

Does it soak up sweat and leave big puddles on the mat?
It soaks up sweat and it dries quickly. We have not had any problems. How much do you sweat ????

How much does the 100% Ripstop Gi weigh exactly?
1lb = 1/2 kg Give or Take

What happens if it does rip.. can I get a prize for training hard?
We have not had one rip yet. If your gi does rip, you don't have to worry cause it will stop.

Is it legal for use in IBJJF tournaments?
Not at this time but check back really soon ! Our gi's are so good they've been outlawed!
RIPSTOP CARE AND SIZING ISSUES

How do I wash and care for this Gi?
Wash cool water. Hang dry is best.

Is it safe to throw it in the dryer?
Yes you can but make sure your dryer settings are not too hot. The Gi will Air dry in 15-30min in most conditions.

Do I need to worry about the gi shrinking?
No there is NO shrinkage with the Rip-stop models and our cotton is all pre-shrunk.

I don't fall within your sizing chart guidelines, do you offer combo sizing?
Everything has its price. Shoot us a email and we will hook you up.

Can I return the gi if it doesn't fit me properly?
But if its a sizing issue, we can swap it out based on availability. However, we don't take used gi's back! So please don't go training in it for a week and then say it doesn't fit.

Do you have any colors other than white, blue, or black?
Sorry not at this time.

When will the 100% Cotton Featherweave Gi's be available?
We will be releasing the first batch in 2011. Pre-order will be happening very soon. Keep checking the featherweave page for more info!

When will the line of BJJ Belts be available?
We have limited stock, but they are ready now lets us know your color and size!

When will you have women's sizing available?
Kauai Kimonos are unisex kimonos and most ladies fit into the A0 and A1. However look for a womens range in the near future.

When will you have kids sizing available?
Kids sizes are in the works. We will be releasing 3 different keiki (youth) sizes soon.
